Roy Player
I've been involved in the media since I was born. My dad was a journalist, scriptwriter, and screenwriter with several books and TV shows. My mum was an assistant producer on The Old Grey Whistle Test for the entire run of the show.
I started in radio and then moved to television, not in front of cameras but as a producer and director for the BBC, Sky Sports, ITV, and numerous independent companies. I even ran my own independent for a couple of years, producing programmes for the BBC daytime schedules and Yorkshire Television. I lectured for four years in York before ending my full-time career at the BBC in Leeds, where I directed Look North. It’s wonderful to be able to return behind the microphone with one of my best mates after 40-something years. Producing this podcast is a labour of love with a genuine hope that we’re providing useful information for those of us who struggled to find a sense of purpose after leaving full-time employment
